Love & Awareness
Myla is my little miracle! We were given a wrong diagnosis during my last ultrasound at 32 weeks. We were told she had Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a brittle bone disease. They said she had fractures present and a smaller chest cavity which confirmed she had either type 2 or type 3 OI. Type 2 being 100% fatal before, during, or shortly after birth. Type 3 being the worse type of those who survive and we should expect many many easily broken bones throughout her life.
My heart was wrecked, not by the diagnosis but to think she was already in pain and hasn't even been born yet AND she may not even survive. I turned to God and even Buddha (my husband's religion) and prayed every single day that she would be healthy and happy. Every night I took a bath, I talked to Myla and rubbed my stomach with tears streaming. I told her that it was ok if she had to leave me and go to heaven but I really want her to stay and I and her family will always love her no matter what.
On 11/17/16 Myla was born absolutely perfect! My baby was here, alive and nothing else mattered! She did not have a single fracture! It was a miracle! She was born with Achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism. She is HAPPY AND HEALTHY! That is all I ever want for her and I will continue to do all I can to keep it that way! I feel blessed everyday that she is here with me today and remember that no matter what we are going through, things could have always been worse. She changed my life for the better.
She has inspired me to raise awareness for Dwarfism. I've learned so much about OI, Dwarfism, and other diagnoses throughout her life and my goal is to educate others as well. I just created @love.and.awareness as way to create jewelry with a purpose and share other people's stories.
I strive to spread love to those with differences just like Myla and spread awareness for what they are going through. And maybe just maybe give others the chance to see through our perspective, to see how beautiful every single life and difference is.
